Did You Know: John H. Strange

In the video assigned by Dr. Strange, I learned a lot of valuable information on the differences between the United States and other countries. It was very shocking because of the fact I feel as if we are a very high-tech country and always trying to figure out new ways to make our learning better. We are a very high-tech society and that was proved watching this video. The computer and cell phone growth from one year to the next was astonishing. I, personally, do not think it is a bad for a child to have a cell phone or computer at a young age. I think it is only helping them adapt to technology better; because we are moving so fast with new technology. When these children are in high school they will be able to keep up with new modern day teaching; since everything is switching to the internet. Since technology is moving so fast, this means old and new educators must keep up with how fast technology is changing and adapt as the years go on. I think it will be interesting to see how technology will effect my classroom in these short 2 years I left.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

This video is very accurate on how older generations such as our grandparents have not really adapted to all the new technology. This is not surprising because this is not how they grew up. Our grandparents sat in desks with pencil, paper, and books every day and did not watch any videos or have power point presentation to learn. This is completely different from the ways we learned, where we expected to have a presentation with a movie or some kind of enhancement for us to grasp what we were learning that day. I think it helps students comprehend what they are learning better with pictures, videos, etc. instead of the original idea of a book or chalk board.

The Importance of Creativity
Ken Robinson has very valid points in this video. One statement he made was very captivating. He said, "We do not grow into creativity, we grow out of it." This is so true!! I notice this mostly with students in high school. This period of your life is defined but who you are and what you do and no one wants to show their creative side because this is "not the cool thing to do". I think this is where students lose their creativity the most, because students in high school are not forced to use their imagination and commit to something to make their creativity shine. I hope more people watch Mr. Robinson's video and see that creativity is a huge part of making someone a well rounded learner and individual.

Pinterest

Let me just say that I am ADDICTED to Pinterest! I would use everything for teachers, if that was possible! I really love the organization pins for teachers. It is hard to keep a classroom with 25+ kids clean and organized; so those would be very helpful for me! I also love all the student use projects. These projects are very creative and well thought out for any one to be able to use or understand. The best part about the projects is that mostly all of them are cost friendly and do not take a lot to make it happen! We all know how hectic life can be so it just makes things easier to do simple projects for our classrooms. I think Pinterest is a great source for teachers when they need some extra help. It is easy to navigate and find different subjects/topics being discussed. I would use Pinterest a lot in my classroom. I want to work with kindergarten to second grade and I know I will have to be extra creative to keep my students on their toes with learning! I love the videos and pictures that can be found to help children stay on track! My favorite are the brain breaks; when the children can take 5 minute break and watch a video with an activity involved to wake themselves up. I can not wait to bring all these GREAT ideas into my classroom!
